A child's visa to Russia: documents and price

Lapsen viisumi Venäjälle: asiakirjat ja hinta

Updated 18.9.2026. In short: a child needs their own visa to Russia regardless of age, and it costs the same as an adult's visa. For a child under 14 the application also needs a consent signed by a parent, a copy of that parent's passport and, where needed, a copy of the birth certificate.

Does even a baby need a visa?

Yes. Every traveller must have their own passport and their own visa. The consulate has no separate child price, so a child's visa costs the same as an adult's: tourist visa from 135 €.

You can use our ready-made form: Consent for a Russian visa (PDF) or the Finnish form (PDF). One parent's signature is usually enough. The consent does not need to be notarised, and it can be written in Finnish, Russian or English.

The whole family's visas at once

Order the family's visas together and send the passports together. We lodge one family's applications at the consulate as a single package.

The child also holds Russian citizenship

If the child holds Russian citizenship in addition to Finnish, the consulate does not issue a visa into the Finnish passport. The child then travels on the Russian passport. This is a common situation in Finnish-Russian families, so check it before you order.

If both parents are citizens of Russia only, the consulate does not issue a visa for the child. The parents then register the child's Russian citizenship, and the child travels without a visa.

The child travels with only one parent

Check the airline's and the transit country's requirements well in advance. We recommend carrying the other guardian's written consent to the trip, even if nobody asks for it.

Good to know before you decide to travel

The land border between Finland and Russia is closed until further notice, and the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs advises against all travel to Russia. Read the current situation.
